Eating With Deb

Have you ever eaten something at a restaurant that was just so good you wish you could have it all the time? Maybe, like most of us, you are too busy and just don’t have that much time to spend in the kitchen. Or, like my sister, you just don’t have the desire to cook. It could also be just you or 2 of you and it’s too much work to cook so little food.

That’s where I come in.

I’m Debbie Manhart.  I’ve been a chef for over 25 years with experience cooking in every type of setting – from a country club to diners. A few years ago, I suffered an injury which prevented me from returning to work in the food service industry. Now I experiment and create great meals at home with my friends and family serving as my food critics.

I have decided to broaden my audience to you, my readers. My goal is to create a community of sharing great food and recipes, travels and fun.

Over the years I have taught cooking classes, and one reoccurring themed class I held was Gourmet Meals in Minutes. In these classes I taught people how to make restaurant style food the easy, fast (and usually healthier) way at home.

My young niece is showing a great interest in cooking and we are enjoying our time together in the kitchen. Cooking with kids can be extremely rewarding, especially if you incorporate ideas we can share on food and kitchen safety, cooking skills and developing healthy eating habits.

Together we can explore all types of cooking techniques like grilling, smoking, air frying, and my recently expanding interest in baking.

You will discover a lot of short cuts that I can’t wait to share with you. We will also explore simple ways of creating great food at home with out devoting a lot of time to preparing these delicious meals. Some foods just take time to prepare, like egg rolls, but you can make a bunch of these at one time and freeze them so that you can pull out a few of them on a later date and bake when you have the desire.

There are also many great meals that can be made in larger quantities that freeze well (this comes in handy if it’s only 1 or 2 you are cooking for) and I will point those out along the way.

My recipes, like any others you try, are just suggestions. If you don’t like a seasoning or a food item, replace it with something you like or skip it all together. I try to make suggestions for replacing items or making a recipe meat-free, allergy-free, etc.

I hope you will join me on this culinary journey!
